Song Analysis: You Can't Hurry Love

You Can’t Hurry Love
Phil Collins version

I need love, love

ooh, ease my mind
And I need to find time
someone to call mine;

My mama said
You can't hurry love
No, you'll just have to wait
She said love don't come easy
But it's a game of give and take
You can't hurry love
No, you'll just have to wait
Just trust in a good time
No matter how long it takes

How many heartaches must I stand
Before I find the love to let me live again
Right now the only thing that keeps me hanging on
when I feel my strength, ooh, it's almost gone

I remember mama said
You can't hurry love
No you'll just have to wait
She said love don't come easy
It's a game of give and take
How long must I wait
How much more must I take
Before loneliness
Will cause my heart, heart to break?

No, I can’t bear to live my life alone
I grow impatient for a love to call my own
But when I feel that I, I can't go on
Well these precious words keep me hanging on

I remember mama said
You can't hurry love
No, you'll just have to wait
She said love don't come easy
Well, it's a game of give and take
You can't hurry love
No, you'll just have to wait
Just trust in a good time
No matter how long it takes, now break!

Now love, love don't come easy
But I keep on waiting
Anticipating for that soft voice
To talk to me at night
For some tender arms hold me tight
I keep waiting Ooh, till that day
But it ain't easy (Love don't come easy)
No, you know it ain't easy

My mama said
You can't hurry love
No, you'll just have to wait
She said love don't come easy
It's a game of give and take...

The song that I choose was originally done by the Supremes. Although they did this song well, I think that Phil Collins does it even better. I first thing that catches you right from the start is the beat. It makes you want to jump up and start dancing. You can tell right from the start that it is going to be song that leaves a smile on your face. The music is just music that makes you happy. To me it sounds like music that I would listen to on a bright sunny day.

The words in this song really are a comfort. The words are used to reassure you that life is going to work and not to worry. I also think that they are showing you that it’s not only the opinion of one person. When the chorus starts lost of voices all come in harmonizing and it makes you remember that everyone goes through these things. I think that this song doesn’t only apply to love, it applies to life. You can’t hurry life, you just have to let it flow on it’s own. When you are trying to get things out of life, you can’t forget to put things into it.

If you have never heard this song I would recommend that you listen to it. :)

  3. Cute choice, I love this song! I think this song also reminds us to listen to those older than us, because they are usually wiser and are credible sources for advice. "Mama said" is repeated throughout the song.
