- The claim is that parental smoking strongly affects child emotions and development. To many smokers, which make up a large amount of the United States population, that claim is unacceptable. Many smokers are so addicted to cigarettes that they cannot stop smoking. They argue that if they smoke outside in a well ventilated area, away from people, nobody will be affected.

- Who needs campus police
We as students at BYU, who have signed the honor code, should not need campus police to act as "Big Brother". Rather we as a student body should be able to behave and police ourselves. Many of us students are at least 18 years old and mature enough to behave properly. Having campus police is an unnecessary spending of money for the amount of work done.
That commercial was sad! I still wonder from personal experiences which is worse. I have seen smoking parents raise children wonderfully, and then pass away when kids were grown and on their own. And then I have seen non-smoking parents neglect children and cause serious repercussions for the rest of their lives. Although the first parent was only around for a short amount of time, they made it worthwhile. Just an opinion, I have only witnessed so much in my eight years.
ReplyDeleteWhile i agree that sometimes the campus police are a little over zealous sometimes, to say that 18 yr olds are mature enough properly is stretching it a little. if that were the case, we wouldn't need normal police either. some people don't even know what the honor code is even if they signed it.

ReplyDeleteZach, I'm going on a whim here and saying that you don't really agree with your claim (I don't really agree with mine either! It was just something to write). However, campus police is absolutely necessary. Where would any community be without law and ORDER. Kendrick and Jessie are right on the ball. This is a great claim though, the vast majority would disagree with you! haha
ReplyDeleteI agree with Josh that we wouldn't have a good community without people that can keep order. With the people who think that the cops are over zealous, I agree. However, if they weren't there would be many more problems if they weren't being over zealous.
