[opinioneditorial]

Recently, marijuana has created a whirl of controversy in the world of politics. The issue we are facing is whether or not we should legalize marijuana. Some think we should not, marijuana is a drug and we should not be endorsing its use. However, some realize that there are benefits to legalizing marijuana.
Some think, "How could this possibly be a good thing?" However, legalizing marijuana is going to set many things in their proper places. We all remember the Great Depression and Prohibition. When Franklin Delano Roosevelt repealed Prohibition he helped the economy and reduced crime. We are all aware of the economic recession at hand. If we legalize marijuana it could have a similar, much-needed effect on our economy today.
Another benefit of legalizing marijuana is that our law enforcement will have time to focus on more pressing issues. In the grand scheme of things is a person in possession of marijuana or the rape or murder of an innocent person more important?

  1. it is shown that drugs and alcohol are most often involved in cases of murder, theft, and other severe crimes so why would making another addictive substance help us? aren't laws based on moral standards anyway. we don't steal because it's wrong. we don't do drugs because it's wrong. then again, we don't live in a perfect world.

  2. If alchohol, which I believe is more harmful than marijuana, is legalized why shouldn't marijuana be as well?

  3. Josh if we're arguing about alcohol I would say it should be illegal. We are arguing marijuana though and two wrongs don't make a right.
